This course is designed for law enforcement and others who are seeking a foundation and understanding of how to deal with forfeiture of seized property. This training will allow individuals to demonstrate understanding of the principles of Senate Bill 563 which includes all considerations for forfeiture cases.

Topics Covered / Course Objectives

  • The student will be able to identify the requirements for officers as to asset forfeiture training as established by the legislature in Chapter 1701 Occupations Code.
  • The student will be able to identify the philosophy behind forfeiture and the extent to which it is appropriate.
  • The student will be able to identify definitions of contraband and proceeds.
  • The student will be able to identify defenses to forfeiture.
  • The student will be able to identify issues regarding pre-seizure planning.
  • The student will be able to identify search and methods of seizure.
  • The student will be able to identify post seizure procedures.
  • The student will be able to identify forfeiture proceedings under 59.04.
  • The student will be able to identify other considerations in forfeiture cases.

  • This program is available to any individual who is interested or involved with asset forfeiture.

Course Length

Asset Forfeiture is a two-hour course.

Course Hours

Participants receive 2 hours of TCOLE (3255) credit.

Course Cost / Fee Policy

Asset Forfeiture is $30 per person.
